Dan McCarthy is very well known, and with work like his there is no question as to why. His apparent ability to depict natures-capes using negative and positive space is expertly executed in this print by taking the two dimensional and layering it to give the print the illusion of depth.
When I got this print in hand, I was shocked by the difference in tone and color from what we had been shown on Damon, Carlton, and a Polar Bear. It is amazing, beautiful and crisp. My mind could smell the vegetation. The shape of the hills and mountains on the island forces your eyes down to the silhouettes, "Je suis seul sur cette ile...ils sont tous morts" translated - I am alone on this island...they are all dead. The transmission tower quietly sits pertched, passing along its message.
